The gift of wellness
10.26.22

Having started Maavee just over 18 months ago with the clear mission to positively impact the world through the pursuit of well-being, I have quite literally spent thousands of hours thinking about wellness. Here are a few nuggets to highlight…

  1. Wellness is a journey, not a destination. It’s super personal, constantly changing, and lasts a lifetime.
  2. Well-being is certainly the desired destination, but the reality is that, like life, it’s about the process, and success happens in the moments along the way.
  3. The aspiration to be well is an innate desire shared by every living human being. Said differently, it’s the one thing that we all have in common.
  4. Wellness is no longer simply about healthy eating and exercise. It is broad and requires a holistic approach that touches our mind, body, heart, soul, work, money, and planet.
  5. We can no longer separate our own well-being from that of the world in which we live. So, being responsible must become an important part of our individual wellness journey.
  6. There is no silver bullet to being well. In fact, every solution on the planet is a “cog in the wheel” of our unique journeys. (This is one reason why the global wellness market is US$4.4T and growing – there are lots of problems to solve and high demand to solve them.)

The world is a bit off-kilter at the moment. There is war, civil unrest, and a global financial crisis. Things may get worse before they get better. As we enter a recession, inflation remains high, and growth slows, companies must prepare to weather the storm. They are battening down the hatches, tightening their belts, and even laying off employees. This will undoubtedly have an impact on company culture and employee well-being.

So, we created Maavee, which means “my life” in French — by pronunciation, not spelling. It’s an app designed to support each person’s unique and constantly unfolding wellness journey. We do this through a creative convergence of content to inform and inspire, community for connection and support, a marketplace to shop well to be well, plus features to engage, nudge, and drive collective impact along the way.

The big question is, “How do you get humans to discover and connect to wellness?” We believe that employers are an incredibly important part of the answer. We built Maavee to be the “easy button” for employers to give the gift of wellness to employees. It’s simply really — employers gift funds to each employee’s Maavee digital wallet to be spent in our hyper-curated marketplace of the best wellness products and services on the planet from brands doing good in the world. Said differently, employees have the agency to choose how to spend some of the employer’s wellness budget on what matters most to them in that moment. And then we enable the full circle of giving — employers give to employees, and employees, as part of their own wellness journeys, may gift wellness to their own friends, family, and even charities.

Now is the time to be leaning into this “powerful present” as our human aspiration to be well is only growing.
